About Peter Prince

The versatile, intrepid Canadian artist Peter Prince, is based on Salt Spring Island, BC. He has taken his musician’s soul and filmmaker’s eye from the Haida Gwaii to the Himalayas, but his heart is rooted in the natural beauty and culture of the Salish Sea.

A flock of new songs soar on his latest release, BORN TO FLY. On the first track, Shangri-La, Prince and Tara MacLean harmonize as his lyrics unveil enchanting visions of Bhutan. Dobro guitar dovetails into harmonica on Curly Blue, a song that evokes summer love on “sun kissed seas.” The enigmatic Beautiful Dancer sways in the flow of his acoustic guitar and a trio of cellos. The title cut dances to his staccato finger-picking, vivid imagery and upbeat gratitude for life’s sweet and bitter “Changes.”

Peter Prince – Born To Fly

In Make A Difference, his warm, sinewy voice calls us to “listen to this SOS” and create a better future. His piano-led Sea Wolf pays homage to the aquatic wolf and the legend of “TAHAKWIA,” a Cowichan medicine woman who called the wolves her friends. The lively Tongan Way transports us to the South Pacific where he recalls, “fishing by flashlight” in shark-infested waters. Ocean Heart is a soothing island lullaby.

Meaning and story emerge in his cross-cultural musical adventures. A miner of the human heart, Prince strikes emotional chords that resonate deeply with listeners. BORN TO FLY is his 8th album and all 13 songs were written and recorded by Peter at his Salt Spring studio in collaboration with talented island musicians.

Contemporary global music influences and sonically compelling elements grace his eight albums of original Folk/Roots music. ISLAND WAY and PACIFIC DAY are beloved collections of his songs. CHASING RAINBOWS and LIGHT DANCE are perennial favourites of his relaxing, acoustic guitar-led, all-instrumental music.

Prince’s latest documentary film, BHUTAN – The Kind Kingdom, gives voice to the endangered Black Necked Crane and the enlightened conservation initiatives of the kingdom of Bhutan. As Bhutanese farmers strive to save the heavenly bird’s magnificent wetland habitat, his lens captures the rugged beauty of the Himalayas and the tiny nation’s vibrant culture. Discover the heart and mind of a land the world has called, “The Last Shangri-La.”
